Thanks to this novel I know what makes people tick in Ahmadabad cricket, business, sex, cricket, religion, cricket, cricket and cricket I m guessing it is aimed at a young adult market parts were banal in the extreme, but carry on and you discover it packs a considerable punch Following the fortunes of three friends who open a cricket shop but get embroiled in politics and religious warfare, it is written in a readable if unspectacular style I did struggle a bit with the character Mama wh Thanks to this novel I know what makes people tick in Ahmadabad cricket, business, sex, cricket, religion, cricket, cricket and cricket I m guessing it is aimed at a young adult market parts were banal in the extreme, but carry on and you discover it packs a considerable punch Following the fortunes of three friends who open a cricket shop but get embroiled in politics and religious warfare, it is written in a readable if unspectacular style I did struggle a bit with the character Mama who was neither someone s mother nor female he confused the heck out of me and I suspect many other Western readers too Parts were a culture shock the idea that you can smash up the car of someone you suspect is stalking your family with witnesses and not expect to receive a strongly worded solicitor s letter in the postan earthquake lays waste to a city and nobody gets any financial help the absence of a compensation culture is both refreshing and disturbing The writing isn t perfect managing to fall somewhere above amateur but below professional, but despite what might appear an indifferent review I cannot give this less than five stars because, whether or not I was too old for it, I was hooked from start to finish

There was a time when I too, like Chetan B, wanted great things for India But let s just say I grew up and becamerational and actually realized how effing dumb that all of the stuff he writes about are.I mean, if you haven t read his books, YOU ARE NOT MISSING OUT.The themes are tiring and quite honestly, boring once you get to the crux of it They are really stupid and immature. He has a superficial way of dealing with general but very real issues, and I swear to God, the way he writes There was a time when I too, like Chetan B, wanted great things for India But let s just say I grew up and becamerational and actually realized how effing dumb that all of the stuff he writes about are.I mean, if you haven t read his books, YOU ARE NOT MISSING OUT.The themes are tiring and quite honestly, boring once you get to the crux of it They are really stupid and immature. He has a superficial way of dealing with general but very real issues, and I swear to God, the way he writes He writes like NO ONE would have thought what he was thinking He wields his pen like as though only HE has thought these things like as though he was educating you with something new, something that people did not think of before. But maybe his characters are just that stupid and start to realize only when they re in their 20s rather than their mid teenage years like the rest of us about all these issues people in India face.I can assure you that no well read and intelligent 17 year old would romanticize him OR the issues he deals with as much as he HIMSELF does. And I cannot stress on how TERRIBLY he deals with those issues. There was this quote I cam across on the internet the other day Scratch any cynic and you will find a disappointed idealist George Carlin Well, in this case, maybeI mthe cynic Or maybe I GREW THE EFF UP AND REALIZED THAT, RATIONALLY, IDEALISM IS NOT POSSIBLE IN THIS WORLD.Because that s what I felt like when reading his books like I was reading something a 12 year old would write when they re first out face to face with all the things that are wrong with this world.Five Point Someone Oh, you have a problem with the curriculum THEN CHANGE YO DAMN SCHOOL, SON If you can t change it, then STFU and get on with your business One Night at the Call Center THIS BOOK MADE ME SO PISSED OFF THE BOOK WAS BASICALLY HIS IDEA OF WHAT GOD MUST BE LIKE I WILL CUT YOU UP, MAN What an EFFING DISAPPOINTMENT I AM MORE DISAPPOINTED IN YOU THAN MRS WEASLEY WAS WITH RON THAT ONE TIME Chamber of Secrets.3 Mistakes of My Life This was the only decent enough book, to be honest I would still give it just two stars, so hold on to your horses.2 States Stop telling people this is the story of your marriage because it s not and like, 60% of this shit did not happen Idiot.Rev2020 LET ME NOT EVEN START WITH THIS SHITTY ASS EXCUSE OF A BOOK WHAT THE EFFING HELL IS HE HONESTLY TRYING TO TAKE UP CORRUPTION AS AN ISSUE 99% OF ALL MY PROBLEMS ARE FROM THIS ONE STUPID BOOK A COMPLETE WASTE OF MY MONEY, MAN BECAUSE YOU KNOW WHY BECAUSE OF THE WAY HE DEALT WITH THE ISSUE.IF IT WAS THAT EASY, WE WOULD HAVE DONE IT ALREADY YA IDJIT.I FOUND IT OFFENDING ON THAT TERM ARE YOU SAYING THAT WE RE ALL STUPID TO NOT HAVE THOUGHT THE VERY SAME THING ARE YOU TELLING ME THAT WE RE THE STUPID ONES FOR NOT DEALING WITH IT THE WAY YOUR STUPID CHARACTERS DID I can t go on I feel bad for my laptop, which is currently facing the brunt of my anger Eff you very much, Chetan Bhagat.I sincerely hope people don t read your books as a way of exploring Indian authors You want to read a REAL Indian author Read Ruskin Bond.Goodbye

A narrative that seems to be devoid of a clear time line, but gripping anyway By combining cricket, politics and religion Chetan has included the passions of India all in one story leaving out only Bollywood The language is simple and the reading is easy yet there seems to be a surprise around most corners.Recommended if you like stories of India.
