I was drawn to The Temptations of Anna Jacobs when I saw that gorgeous cover and then read it was a romancemystery set in Victorian England Add in Jack the Ripper yes I’m deranged and I was immediately sold Annabelle Jacobs is not the typical Victorian woman She is going to medical school and has made her education her priority much to her mother’s dismay Her mother thinks she should focus on finding a suitable husband and feels that her chosen studies chases away any desirable prospects Still her mother won’t oppose her choice especially when Anna was encouraged by her father to take this path While Anna would love to have a husband and family eventually it’s not her primary concern Of course now that she’s not looking Anna meets Drew a scoundrel who spent time in jail after being wrongfully accused of the Ripper murders and her heart is a lost cause After discovering his origins Drew had spent a lot of time wallowing in self pity drinking himself into oblivion and womanizing to forget the pain of betrayal he felt from his father and mother His careless behavior made him the perfect scapegoat and The Ripper took full advantage by setting him up Thankfully the frame up didn’t stick Seeing that Drew was in The Ripper’s haunts and close enough to be set up Scotland Yard drafts him to help catch the killer When he meets Anna the spirited medical student Drew is immediately taken with her pluck and determination When The Ripper strikes again Anna’s medical knowledge and counsel proves to be a valuable asset in solving the crimes The Drew is around Anna the he can’t resist his growing attraction but he feels unworthy with his uestionable past Anna was a character I immediately bonded with She had sass and spunk and I admired her courage going against the norms of the time by pursuing a medical degree She may not have attracted the conventional male who would’ve been threatened by Anna’s aspirations but Drew found her talents and focus enticing I just love a man who is confident enough to love a strong woman Drew pulled himself out of a nasty situation with the help of his best friend and the support of his brother Some could’ve used the situation as an excuse to sink further into self pity but Drew counted himself fortunate and didn’t piss away his second chance His connection to Anna is powerful because they’re attracted to each other both mentally and physically They fight and succumb to their desires in the middle of trying to solve the grisly murders taking place Danger and desire combine for some very steamy scenes; definitely scandalous for the time but oh so delicious It was nice that in spite of some road blocks to their romance there were never any ridiculous or frustrating actions Yay for maturity in romanceI don’t know about you but I’ve always been drawn in by any documentary or story based on Jack the Ripper The horrific nature of the crimes and the fact that he got away with them fascinates and disturbs me I think any mystery buff feels like there must be a way to figure his identity out In this story the mystery surrounding Jack the Ripper is part of an ongoing story arc for the series so while a part was solved the identity of The Ripper is still not revealed The mystery began in the previous installment The Secrets of Mia Danvers but you don’t have to read it to appreciate and enjoy this story With that said I would like to go back and read the first one Ms DeHart sucked me with her thrilling story and I can’t wait to read the next I NEED to know who this fictionalized Ripper is A copy was provided by IntermixPenguin in exchange for an honest review You can find this review and at The Readers Den

Originally published on Buried Under Romance as part of a blog tourSuspenseful but with less romance than I anticipated it's categorized as historical romance but is like historical romantic suspenseBefore I began to read this I thought this book was just another historical romance with intrigue That thought was uickly dashed as I realized the intensity of events in this book Jack the Ripper was a real historical figure who cruelly killed a number of women and was never caught And he is the impetus that drives and endangers our dear Anna and Drew's relationship While this is categorized as a historical romance I feel it fits the genre of Romantic Suspense much better Indeed Anna and Drew are both characters with secrets Drew with his having been framed for murder and Anna with her ambitions to be a doctor A very uniue pairing to be sure yet not unexpected since only a strong woman like Anna could understand the burden of shadows that Drew carries on his back At the same time while I liked the progression of Anna and Drew's romance I feel that it took backstage to the suspense element making this of a suspense novel The handling of Jack the Ripper's mentality and behavior was done especially well and the few scenes in which his maniacal thoughts were heard as he destroyed another victim made me shudder in truth As this is book 2 of the series and as the real Jack the Ripper was never caught I do wonder how this series will resolve itself For those of you who think that the villain is brought his comeuppance at the end of this book let me assure you that it does not happen and I believe that was known to readers of this series What does happen though is an intriguing mix of horror suspense mystery and love between two struggling and tormented characters whose very lives are held over a precipice as they try to deal with their growing affection with each other all the while worrying over Jack's next victim who might just be Anna This all makes for a very intense novel and Robyn Dehart writes the tension of all kinds so well that I felt in need of nourishment right after reading thisI would recommend this book to all readers looking for an plot driven intense story with romance and also to read book 1 of this series The Secrets of Mia Danvers first to better follow the mystery of cracking Jack I look forward to the final book of the trilogy and its secretive resolutionReview copy provided by the published in exchange for an honest review Thank you Penguin group

A romance with Jack the Ripper as a character I can honestly say I didn't think I'd ever put romance and Jack the Ripper together in a sentence but this book does just that After Drew Foster is released from jail for being accused of being Jack the Ripper he starts working in the case This is where he meets Anna Jacobs They are uite the pair Neither have much faith in themselves but they are drawn together and fall in love while trying to identify the killer I really liked this but was disappointed they didn't uncover Jack But if he was never identified in real life I guess they couldn't do that here lol ARC provided by the publisher via Netgalley

The Temptations of Anna Jacobs Dangerous Liaisons # 2 by Robyn DeHart is a 2014 Intermix publication I was provided a copy of this book by the author and publisher in exchange for an honest reviewAnna is going against society by attending a school devoted to teaching women to become doctors Her mother is horrified and terrified Anna will never find a husband if this continues When Anna's brother a detective for Scotland Yard releases Drew Foster from prison despite his being the number one suspect in the grisly Jack the Ripper murders he is lambasted publicly What the people don't know is Drew is actually working undercover He hopes to clean himself up and stay sober and clear his name When he continues to find himself in Anna's company the two realize an attraction is growing rapidly between them Drew will enlist Anna to help him catch the killer when he finds the Yard is not much help to his investigation Despite the few stolen kisses and the physical attraction to one another Drew makes it clear he and Anna can not have a long term proper relationship Anna is a not a woman to be deterred however and Drew will find himself unable to resist the temptationThe focus here is split between the Ripper investigation and the romance between Anna and Drew Anna's determination to become a doctor is a daily fight against her mother who attempts to dissuade her at every turn This part was funny because the plot to have Anna's teacher influence her to give up her dreams really backfires I enjoyed the banter between Anna and Drew and they will make the perfect couple if they survive the Ripper murders I love a good mystery and when it is combined with my favorite romance genre it's a win win In this case there were a few times when the story stuttered a little and the back and forth between the ripper's thoughts Drew and Anna's dangerous pursuit and the romance switched back and forth too uickly and I had a hard time really sinking my teeth into this one I enjoyed the book for the most part and anytime we have a female protaganist in historical fiction that goes against society and helps to open doors for women to stand on their own two feet without needing a man to provide their basic needs for them is to be applauded I loved Drew's human side as he struggles to fight off the urge to drink and the temptations are everywhere He shows us he is very determined to be a productive citizen and make a difference even though it will be a hard fought battle I think maybe this was just a really massive undertaking and at times it just didn't flow evenly As I have stated before it is nearly impossible to include a Jack the Ripper story line and avoid graphic violence but the author did a great job in keeping that area under control The book does have a darker tone because of the subject matter Although the book has a few issues I appreicate the story line having depth and taking on serious subjects than many historical romance novels recently I think it's time to move past the fluff and get back to a realistic view of what life was really like in this period of time It doesn't have to be all dark and heavy and melodramatic but often when I read Regency romance novels I sometimes feel like I am reading the same book over and over Parties gowns balls polite society and spoiled Dukes and Earls can only amuse for so long Overall I give this one 35 stars rounded to 4

With sweet romance and thrilling mystery The Temptations of Anna Jacobs was a fantastic historical romance read I really liked this book It kept me on the edge of my seat and I really enjoyed reading it Loved itAnna was a lovely heroine She was very smart strong and determined not to let society's disapproval sway her from what she wanted I appreciated that she was unwilling to let rumors dictate how she perceived a person like with Drew's reputation as the Ripper She was a great heroine and I really liked herDrew was also wonderful He was really trying to redeem himself in this book After being drunk for most of his adult life keeping bad company and being so muddle minded that he allowed the murders to be pinned on him he wasn't going to go back to all that He set out to redeem himself and he definitely did He proved himself as a clever determined and worthy gentleman And he was so sweet and adorable I thought he was a perfectly flawed heroThe romance was great Anna and Drew were very sweet together I liked how Anna didn't judge Drew for his past or his reputation and Drew understood Anna's wish to be a doctor There was some steaminess between them though their romance was mostly sweet I thought they were a lovely coupleThe plot was fast paced and I was hooked the entire way through There were tons of thrills that kept me on the edge of my seat as Anna and Drew tried to find the Ripper I really enjoyed the story and the ending was lovelyThe Temptation of Anna Jacobs was a fantastic historical romance I loved this book The romance was sweet the mystery was thrilling and I enjoyed every bit of it Romance lovers this book is a must readI received a complimentary copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review

In this one I had problems with the title too Why “The Temptation of Anna Jacobs”? It would have to be titled “The Temptation of Drew Foster” It was he that was tempted and not AnnaBut the book is still good and very enjoyable The story is interesting and Drew was much likable here that in the previous book where he was a very unpleasant and crude drunkIn this book we see his redemption and his will to change his life He’s grown He’s a man here instead a whimpering boy I liked it very muchHis problem is that he struggles to accept the fact of his birth It was only his problem – his half brother Alex the duke from the previous book loves him and accepts him completely Anna doesn’t find it very important Mia neither At the end he accepts it tooBut he had to do with the odious step mother I could understand her anger but it is not Drews fault It’s her husband’s fault and she should have not vented her anger on the son So I still hated herAs in the previous book the heroine Anna was awesome I like strong heroines and in these books we have them in spades That’s great She’s intelligent and completely aware that what she wants to do with her life is not something the society will appreciate but she has on her side an accepting although reluctantly and loving mother a great professor who appreciates her intelligence a loving brother who values her mindI do hope Robyn DeHart will write another book in this series since I’m curious to read Simon’s story

See this review and others like it at Badass Book ReviewsThe Temptations of Anna Jacobs picks up where the previous book The Secrets of Mia Danvers left off I am really enjoying this series though I felt the first book was a little bit stronger than this one I loved the leads Anna and Drew than I expected to and thought the twist with The Ripper's identity was well done but the ending was a bit rushed This is still one of the few historical romance series that I intend to continue to follow and recommend to othersDrew Foster is the brother to the Duke of Carrington and was framed for The Ripper murders in the previous book He has since been cleared of the charges but his reputation remains in tatters He begins working undercover with Simon Jacobs of Scotland Yard to help in the apprehension of the real murderer When Simon is sent away for training Drew turns to his sister Anna Jacobs for help with some details concerning the murders Anna is a medical student and at the top of her class She tends to say exactly what she is thinking and so doesn't have suitors banging down her door She is content in her studies and doesn't think she will ever meet anyone that will appreciate her as an intellectual match until she meets Drew Foster As the two delve deeper and deeper into the investigation they find some very surprising facts about the most recent murders Can they stop him before he kills again? And why does Drew keep pulling away from the willing Anna?I wasn't uite as struck with Anna right off the bat as I was with Anna She did grow on me very uickly though and I found her to be a perfect heroine for The Temptations of Anna Jacobs She was very smart and observant as well as being forward thinking about women's rights She was a true pioneer for her time and yet still believable as a lady of means She had the upbringing to carry herself in social situations but also has the intellect to hold her own in any conversationThough I didn't care for Drew in the first book I loved him here His characterization was very vivid and I expected him to waltz off the page at any moment I enjoyed seeing his struggle for sobriety and his dedication to bettering himself He was very clever once he laid off the scotch and was uite the charmer He has a very painful secret that he carries with him and it taints his interactions with Anna but I was glad to see them both come to terms with it by the endAnna in my head I hear this as Ah na like the character from Frozen not An na and Drew were a scorching hot couple They stood up for one another and really couldn't care less what other people thought of them together They complimented one another intellectually and emotionally while sharing some very hot physical scenes I would say that The Temptations of Anna Jacobs was uite a bit sexier than its predecessorThe mystery of The Ripper continued in this book and there was added layer of a possible copy cat killer Anna and Drew work together to compare the old and new crime scenes and find any differences While we still don't 100% know the identity of The Ripper some very strong hints were given in this book so that the reader can guess his identity but the characters are still in the dark It seems like the next book should be able to wrap this plotline up easily and I am wondering if it will be from Anna's brother's perspectiveThe Temptations of Anna Jacobs continues the delightful mix of historical romance and mystery established in the first book I enjoyed seeing the development between Anna and Drew but felt like the end was a little rushed There was a lot of focus on the elements keeping them apart but then they just seemed to be swept away suddenly and the two were together It didn't ruin my enjoyment of this book though and I still highly recommend the Dangerous Liaisons series for romance and historical readers alikeThank you to Netgalley and InterMix for providing an ARC copy of this book for review

he Temptations of Anna Jacobs by Robyn DeHart is for the lack of a better word WOW A historical romance based around the Jack the Ripper murders Follow up to The Secrets of Mia Danvers this second book picks up where it left off but don't let that deter you it is a great book and every thing you need to know is revisited without leaving you with the feeling that you're missing something Anna Jacobs wants nothing than to be a doctor and not even her mother meddling and nagging will make her change her mind Shunning societies strict rules and decorum Anna has studied hard to be one of the best in her class Her brother Scotland Yard Inspector Simon Jacobs is in charge of the Jack the Ripper case and despite the arrest he has made he isn't convinced that he got the right person When another murder takes place while the suspect is in prison he releases Andrew Foster with a deal that Andrew who was targeted as scapegoat is to help track down the real Jack the Ripper Andrew Drew Foster is the younger brother of the Duke of Carrington and he spent the last years of his life in a drunken stupor and with a case of in the wrong place at the wrong time he ended up arrested for the heinous murders done by Jack the Ripper His time in prison not only sobered him up but put his life in perspective When Simon approached him with the offer to be a unofficial Inspector with Scotland Yard and help search for the real killer Drew jumps at the chance fully aware that society will shun him but it's his chance to clear his name and start a new life for himselfSimon is sent up to Scotland and has left Drew with his second Inspector Bernard Jefferies to work the case With murders piling up Drew sees an inconsistency in the most recent murders needing a second opinion and just looking for another reason to Anna again he asks her to look at the notes and the bodies Anna is glad to help and despite their rocky introduction Anna knows she can trust him if her brother didn't think him innocent then she wouldn't either Together Anna and Drew work the clues and do some Victorian CSI type experimentation to find out about the recent murdersDrew is humbled by Anna's unwavering trust in him she knows him better than anyone else but only knowing who is now not the drunk rake he was before and he loves her for it Anna is mistaken when she make the judgment that Drew is just like everyone else in his thinking that women shouldn't be doctors but instead he supports her and encourages her and even includes her in his investigation The one thing Anna didn't want was to fall in love and get married before she was ready but with Drew she know he would never ask her to give anything up Drew and Anna are a lovely couple two people who are so perfect for each other The Jack the Ripper storyline is front line in the story with Drew and Anna's romance playing a second fiddle and even a side romance between Anna's teacher and mother A great mystery with an open end not a cliffhanger hopefully that will lead to Simon's story A definite must read even if you haven't read the first book in the series

Oh my gosh Oh my gosh oh my gosh Oh my goshI've been waiting for this book ever since I finished the first book and waited even through all of her other releases for Entangled and Oh my gosh I can't believe it's finally hereSo we left off at the end of the previous book with no murderer But we got a glimpse of who it was Well sort of The murderer is able to move among the ton and the noble with ease So that's super chillingAnd as we all know Drew is the brother that was accused of the murdersBut of course why is he the hero in this book if he was sent to accused to be sent to the gallows? Maybe because he's the brother of Alex the Eighth Duke of Carrington the previous hero And of course because he was sent free on a mission by Investigator Simon Jacobs Whom we found because of his actions was shipped off the somewhere in ScotlandSo Drew is set free on a mission to find this killer knowing full well that everyone will be against him thinking him as the killer More the better to use that as his cover to figure out who's framing himBut of course troubles comes he's way and trouble comes in the form of Anna Jacobs Simon's sisterShe believes him not the killer but something much a drunkard arrogant prig And it was his fault for getting her brother sent off to who knows where in Scotland to be punished for not catching the RipperOf course things get hectic and their attraction to each other is fast and steamy But then the killings is always there throwing Anna and Jacobs together to solve the caseBoth of them are super sweet together and I just couldn't kept from smiling Sure they bantered but it was super fun to watch and learn that both of them didn't judge each other nor care much for what society had termed themSure Drew was dumb enough to get pinned for the murder but he's turning around and trying to get his life on track Most definitely his drinking which I was super happy that he was coming to terms that he had a drinking problem And I loved that he cared about what Anna thought and how she saw things so they made for a very fun couple to follow through this dark and thrill seeking rideOne thing I had troubles with was the title that Anna kept referring to Drew Lord Carrington Shouldn't Lord Carrington be referred to his brother the Duke of Carrington? That really bothered me sadly But I do have an advanced copy so hopefully it was caught and editedBut I super loved this and was hooked right fromwell ever since I finished the first book so I'm biased LOLBut I really do recommend this and I hope you get ready for the last book in this thrilling ride for when we finally capture the RipperThis eARC was provided by the publisher for a honest reviewRating 5 out 5
