I bought this book from a bookstore a very, very, very, long time ago when it first came out and I was a teenager That should give you a good idea of my age lol I loved it as a teenager It wasn t a bodice ripper which I also read back then but instead had a plot and very relatable heroine Granted the book was set during the years of King Charles II so some of what Angel experienced did not relate to me Anyway, while going through my several 50 orboxes of books in storage no bo I bought this book from a bookstore a very, very, very, long time ago when it first came out and I was a teenager That should give you a good idea of my age lol I loved it as a teenager It wasn t a bodice ripper which I also read back then but instead had a plot and very relatable heroine Granted the book was set during the years of King Charles II so some of what Angel experienced did not relate to me Anyway, while going through my several 50 orboxes of books in storage no bookshelves yet , I came across this book and the one that follows My Lady Benbrook They were both a bit dogeared guess I read themthan once back in the day and not in the best condition That didn t matter, I immediately took them in hand, sat in my recliner, and prepared to enter a world I had enjoyed as a kid To my surprise, I enjoyed this book very much Yes, the sex scenes were tame compared to those we get from authors in this day and age but at my age reading about sex doesn t interest me much at all I enjoyed the rags to riches story as well as the romance between the two main characters Of course, there was a villain too The period of history was also written so as to almost be another character in and by itself All in all a still a very good read even if it was published back in 1975
