This is the second book in the series Marriage and Mayhem; it is a stand alone book and you do not have to read the first book to enjoy Love Stock And Barrel This is a lovely clean Christian western romance Ms Barnes hooked me from the first page to the end of the story Author Crystal Barnes has the art of story telling fine tunedSTORY LINEIn this novel Dinah D J Lexington a skilled gun smith is on the run from an uncaring father and a philandering fiance There is a story behind using her initials for her name After finding her mother's diary she knows where she is going; West Young Woman Go West Dinah travels West dressed as a boyDinah finds unanswered uestions and mysteries in her mother's diary and is on a mission to find Pete Atkins in Crystal Falls Texas For reasons unknown to Dinah before her death her mother hired a private detective to find Pete To add to the mystery her mother's maiden name was Atkins Why was her mother looking for Pete Atkins? Who was he? How was he related to her mother? Why didn't she tell Dinah about him? Then add into the mix handsome Russell Cahill working with Pete A strong cowboy responsible for raising his passel of siblings; his mother is dead and his father is a drunkard with little to no interest in these wonderful children Russell is a caring loving man and does the best he can for his family with the little money he has availablePete Atkins refuses to talk to Dinah Will she get her answers? Russell and Dinah who becomes known as Dinah mite for her strong red headed determination and temper will become involved in a crisis and then of course a fast marriageThere is a lot of action in this story with Pete outlaws rustling and the attraction between Russell and Dinah which they are fighting tooth and nail Ms Barns included humor in this story I found myself laughing at the character's anticsCHARACTERS PLOTTING AND DEVELOPMENTI want a Russell of my very own Ms Barnes created a wonderful character in Russell; handsome strong and a man of faith The character development of Russell and Dinah was very good I loved watching an insecure Dinah coming to terms with God and His plans for her life to become a strong secure woman as well as Russell's renewal of his faith in the blessings of God in his life and acceptance of God's plan for himPete another skillfully developed character is running from the past and Dinah I wanted to shake him at timesMs Barnes kept me guessing throughout this story I thought I had it worked out; wow was I wrong The revelations were a total surprise Ms Barnes weaves a good story with twists and turn; then brings all the threads together to form a cohesive taleMs Barnes presentation of the salvation plan was well done and in such a way the book did not come off as preachy or pushyThe pace of the book was very good The story did not lag and kept my interest The plot kept me guessing as I said I was totally wrong in my assumption of the mystery involving Pete and the rustlers I found myself wanting to read about Russell Pete and Dinah The secondary characters add so much to the story and I felt I knew them by the end of the bookRECOMMENDATIONThis book has everything a good story needs to entertain the readerI loved this book and found myself sorry when I reached the last page I hope Ms Barnes has plans to include these characters in her next book I think anyone would enjoy this story I liked this book so much I plan to read the first bookBooks reviews of any novel are dependent on the book review author’s opinion; book reviews on line under my name and on my blog are my opinion

Dinah Lexington escapes from her two timing fiance and ends up in Crystal Falls TX where clues from her mother's diary have led her With his mother dead and his father drowning his sorrows in liuor Russell Cahill is desperately trying to raise his siblings and give them a better life He doesn't have time for romantic entanglements and when he's backed into marrying Dinah to save her reputation he's determined to keep her at arms lengthI enjoyed the characters; they are well developed and likeable each struggling to find answers to their situation Dinah is a strong female lead and pushes the envelope for socially acceptable behavior for this time period wearing pants but the author ensures Dinah's reactions and thoughts are in line with the era's customs and culture I've read too many historical novels in which the characters have very modern responses and thought patterns This isn't one of those novels Dinah and Russell both change into better versions of themselves by the end of the book maturing as individuals and Christians The story is well written and moves along at a good pace The theme of trusting in God was woven throughout the story without hitting me over the head I learned a lot about the time period 1880's and life on a Texas ranch I look forward to reading other books by this author I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

This book is an historical western with a Christian message set in 1888 I loved the pace and story of Dinah Lexington who flees to Texas to escape her overbearing Father and a cheating fiance She is searching for a man named Pete Atkins that her Mother named in her journal she thinks he might be a relative She finds him on a ranch in Crystal Falls Texas Where she also finds Russell Cahill a man who has so many problems of his own the last thing he wants is to add a petite redhead to the mix One who can shoot better then him and wears pants Well after many things happen his Father decides that is exactly who he is going to marry and has the shotgun trained on Crystal to force her to do it This book is so good and has so many things going on you will keep turning the pages to see what happens next Will Dinah find out who Pete is to her? Will Russell survive an attack from horse thieves? Will their forced marriage work and in it all will they learn to lean on God for whatever out come happens

This was such a great historical western romance written in the 1880s time period I haven't read book 1 yet but they can be read as stand alone titles Dinah is a funny headstrong woman who runs away to Texas to find a man who is mentioned in her dead mothers journal She finds him in the town of Crystal Falls but he doesn't want to talk or answer any of her uestions about her deceased mother She also meets a handsome rancher named Russell who is having a hard time balancing work and family Together they find a way to help each other and get the answers they are seeking Love Stock Barrel is a clean christian fiction with themes like faith God prayer trust and forgiveness through out the book I did not find the book too preachy and enjoyed the steady plot and interesting characters I hope there is another book that continues to follow Dinah and Russell's story I received a complimentary copy of this ebook in exchange for an honest review on my blog and social media all opinions are my own

Love Stock and Barrel is an inspirational western historical romance sprinkled with humor and mystery The story is a fast paced read with fun twists and turns spurring the reader on to its “happily ever after” ending A perfect balance is struck between showcasing the characters’ heartache of strained family relationships and depicting how their faith in Jesus Christ plays an important role in reconciliation I recommend this book to anyone who wants to live life on the bright side Texas styleI received a free advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review

I loved writing this tale Dinah and Russell's story all developed from a what if What if there was a shotgun wedding with the rifle pointed at the lady instead of the man?
