4 stars This is a really impressive debut novel from E.A Andrews A beautifully written, heartfelt coming of age story about a young girl following her heart, finding her passion, creating a new life for herself and falling in love along the way.Harper Deacon is 18 years old and has always been a rule follower, rarely deviating from the strict expectations of her controlling mother And when she makes the brave decision to not go to college, but instead to follow her dreams and pursue her music career, she is pretty much disowned Moving into the home she has inherited from her recently deceased Grandfather, Harper is left to fend for herself and make her own way This was my life to live I might never make it in the music business But I d rather try and fail than live with the regret of never having taken the chance. Harper s father was a successful musician until he took his own life, and as proud as Harper is of his legacy, she is determined to find her own way and create her own success A talented singer songwriter guitar player, she is performing at open mike night when she meets Smith Dawson Gorgeous and dangerous looking with a bad boy rocker vibe, Smith is usually the type of guy she avoids But in addition to their clearly mutual love of all things music, there is a spark of attraction between them, and as Harper gets to know Smith and meets his bandmates, she discovers that he s a fun, charming, dynamic and charismatic guy Hi I m Nikki Best friend and personal stylist for Harper Deacon Smith grinned at her, those stupid dimples making a reappearance Nice to meet you, Nikki I m Smith I aspire to be second best friend and guitar player for Harper Deacon You must enjoy a challenge, Nikki said, batting her ridiculously long eyelashes Oh, I do, Smith said, and aimed his grin at me Despite their attraction, Harper is dedicated first and foremost to her music, so she shuns the idea of anything romantic happening between, but when she is invited to join the band as their singer, they become a fixture in each other s lives Harper hasn t really spent that much time around guys, but she suddenly finds herself thrust into a family of sorts with three of them And though she develops close friendships with each of them, it s with Smith that she has the strongest bond, and the influence that he has on her, her confidence, and her music is beautifully explored He turned every experience into an adventure His laughter and his capacity for joy was infectious And I liked who I was with Smith Braver with my words and actions More open to expressing my emotions Initially Harper and Smith are drawn together by their love of music, but it s so much than that Of course they re wildly attracted to each other, but their growing connection runs deep and as they spend time together a beautiful friendship develops And that friendship slowly and naturally becomes something as they fall for each other and experience the intensity and wonder of first love I fell for him the minute I laid eyes on him I guess that s why they call it falling You think you re in control But you re not. But Smith has his own demons to battle, and they are big Harper will need to use every ounce of her new found strength to deal with Smith, the band, her relationship with her mother, her love for Smith, her music and her future.I really enjoyed this book Harper is a great heroine strong, smart and driven, with a realistic vulnerability that made her likably relatable Who was the real Harper Deacon Someone please enlighten me Not so long ago, my life was safe and predictable The old me followed the rules and never missed a curfew Now, left to my own devices, I had no idea what I was doing with my life And Smith wow He s just gorgeous Sweet, fun and romantic with a bit of a bad boy edge, he s impossible not to love His past and the things he deals with are heartbreaking, but really well written, and I thought it added a really great twist to the story. And together, Harper and Smith are fantastic I loved their friendship full of sweet, fun and profound moments, I felt it all, and loved their sweet and slow fall towards the inevitable, and the beautiful love story that followed. There s a great collection of side characters the boys in the band, and Harper s friends are all really well developed and bring a lot to the story, and to Harper s journey And I loved watching the dynamics of those relationships develop. The book ends unexpectedly, and I really wasn t sure what to make of that ending It s not a cliffy, exactly, just a surprise twist that leaves things in a bit of a weird place But there will be a sequel, and I m definitely looking forward to seeing where it all goes from here. This is a great read The writing is emotive and draws you in without becoming overly sentimental, the characters are great fun, the love story is sweet, and the drama and emotion of Harper s journey are really well written.I loved it 4 stars.

3.5 stars or 7 10I personally recommend this book to readers who loves music This book has a soundtrack of its own because of the references and I totally loved it This novel is about making a stand and following your heart s desire I think it s a very bold debut as it tackles some controversial topics in our society and I commend the author for that However, it doesn t seem fitting to be a standalone novel as the ending really left me wanting for I mean, we are presented with the issues but there is no clear resolution in the end I would really love to have a sequel of this story I d like to see Harper struggle in chasing her dream of becoming a musician and keeping her relationship with Smith I just think that everything just goes too smoothly at her end Also, her relationship with Smith gives plenty of room for further development Don t get me wrong, I liked the premise and Smith s story surprised me He is really an interesting character and I d love to see him overcome his issues Overall, it s a very enjoyable read I loved Harper and Smith s chemistry I love the cast and their quirks Lastly, I m just glad that everyone s happy and contented in the end.

There s a certain sense of pride in knowing exactly what you want to do with your life In knowing that there s an absolute path you want to take But it s hard to be taken seriously when you re barely out of high school because no parent wants their child to experience extreme hardship, especially when the chosen path is not guaranteed Harper feels so strongly about her music and convincing her mother of it is a challenge When the two can t come to an agreement, Harper moves out and vows to succeed on her own terms She meets Smith, an enigmatic guitarist, at one of her shows and finds herself reeled into the social circles they share He is just as passionate about music and finally, here s someone who speaks her language One thing she can t have happen is falling for him and derailing her plans But you can t help who you fall in love with and so the story explores their love of songwriting and the determination Harper has to make it.Everything Begins With Us starts off one way but ended up in a direction I wasn t expecting In all actuality, I didn t know what to expect I was just there for the ride Harper is essentially thrust from an overprotective environment into the real world overnight The result is that she trades one experience college life for another sudden emotional and financial independence in the process maturing so much faster than she would have otherwise I was enchanted by her chemistry with Smith Their back and forth between being friends and edging closer to the other side was exciting and also a bit frightening I like that Harper never lost her conviction and in the face of a new challenge she never expected in her life, I think she handled herself rather remarkably Smith s role is not only that of encouraging her but also pushing her out of her comfort zone There s plenty of give and take between them and in the end she becomes just as much an emotional rock for him as he has been for her There are some themes in the book that the author dives into which I won t give away in this review but you can look at the labels below if you d like a heads up For me not knowing what was coming was what tied me to the book and helped me sense what it was like for Harper. This is a novel about growing up, letting go, finding common ground and friendship The characters go through some struggles that will touch you and some of them might seem familiar I liked the story and it did stick with me for a few days after I d finished it I don t know if Andrews has any plans to revisit Harper and Smith down the road so that we can see their progress if Harper is any closer to her dreams, but in the meantime I can certainly make that wish on their behalf Bel

We have Harper who decides she no longer wants to follow her moms plan and wants to become a singer no matter the cost I have to applaud Harper for her decision especially knowing her mother wasn t supportive and she would be on her own financially and emotionally At the age of 18 I couldn t imagine being on my own Harper eventually joins a band and I loved the whole group They are all different coming from all walks of life but the love they have for each other is something else Then we have Smith who is a combination of things and I wasn t sure about him at first I had one theory and I was wrong I have to say I m impressed the author went this route and I applaud her for writing about this topic I did have a few minor issues with the story and that was the pacing Some chapters seemed long and drawn out and other chapters were quick I wish the ending would have been longer I was left wanting and had some unanswered questions I hope there will be another book or a novella and we can catch up with the gang Overall, this was a good debut novel by E.A Andrews and she had a lot of potential I look forward to reading books by this author in the future Review copy received by author for honest opinion

I received an e book copy of this story in exchange for an honest review.Harper Deacon just graduated from high school and tells her mom she wants to pursue a career in music which ended up killing her father Her mother doesn t support the decision and kicks Harper out of the house That same night Harper meets Smith Dalton Smith is a sexy, handsome guitar player who has a reputation for being a player Smith proposes that Harper join the band when they lose their lead singer. This story is really intriguing and it also deals with bipolar disorder which I have read about only once before I think it portrayed the disorder very well although I sort of thing this could become a series and follow Harper and Smith as they grow in music or get a record deal or because this next part is about spoilers.Smith is going to work for the family business and I m wondering if these two will stay together or end up breaking up I think they are a really strong pair but they are also really young and dealing with something that is really not easy to deal with.I recommend this book with a semi trigger warning for bi polar disorder doesn t really need one but sort of.

Fans of any type of music will enjoy this book You can see throughout the story how music really affects the characters, as is true in real life The characters are extremely personable, even the minor ones E.A Andrews writing style is incredible and hooks the reader from the very first page I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for a contemporary story I really was not expecting the ending I got and I m grateful for that, normally I can tell where the book is going to end but that wasn t the case here I was heartbroken by the ending, not necessarily by the events but because I didn t want the story to end Everything Begins With Us is a great read and received 5 stars from me This is definitely the best book I ve read all year

Harper Deacon wants nothing than to follow her dream So, even with the road ahead filled with unknowns, she takes matters into her own hands and moves forward And along that journey she faces the highest highs and the lowest lows She loses family, finds friends, and discovers love This story will capture your imagination, engage your heart, and have you on the edge of your seat. There are some twists in this story that I didn t see coming, and some that I suspected might happen Of course, I won t share these here as I feel they re important to making this story what it is I think you should experience these for yourself However, I must tell you about Smith When Harper meets Smith, she quickly realizes as we all do that he s pretty special He s a smart, sexy, and fun bad boy He brings lots of joy, and a ton of complication, to Harper s life But, together, these two are strong They push each other to the edge and they support each other when it s needed I loved their push and pull and, ultimately, their romance And, I would have loved to read some of this story from Smith s POV I know it would have rounded out the story even for me.There are some great secondary characters here The guys in the band as so supportive of each other and such well developed characters that they could easily have books of their own These guys were great and their friendship felt so real and I enjoyed reading the interactions between the entire cast in this story The end of this book caught me off guard, however It s not a cliffhanger but, in reality, it didn t feel like an ending either I m hoping there s a second book that gives us the opportunity to check in on Harper and Smith so that I can make sure that all my hopes for them become reality Overall, this was a good read with great writing and wonderful characters This was a very good debut novel and I look forward to reading from this author.
