Thank you Penguin Teen for an eARC in exchange for an honest reviewThey say only the good die young, but that s just a stupid line in a song we used to sing It isn t real It isn t true I know that because Shaila Arnold was so many things brilliant and funny, confident and wild But honestly She wasn t all that good Rich kids, preppy private school, and murder They Wish They Were Us was one of those books that I automatically like because it has some of my favorite things I swear I wil Thank you Penguin Teen for an eARC in exchange for an honest reviewThey say only the good die young, but that s just a stupid line in a song we used to sing It isn t real It isn t true I know that because Shaila Arnold was so many things brilliant and funny, confident and wild But honestly She wasn t all that good Rich kids, preppy private school, and murder They Wish They Were Us was one of those books that I automatically like because it has some of my favorite things I swear I will never get tired of rich people drama and a murder mystery I went into this thinking it was going to be a dark and disturbing mystery, but it wasabout the drama of high school with a background for the murder that took place I mean I m not complaining because it was a compelling book, but I wish going into it I would have known the murder is not the main plot.Jill Newman is honestly why I enjoyed this book so much she is a protagonist that I think everyone cheers for She knows that what she and her group of friends is doing to the underclassmen is wrong, but she doesn t want to go against the popular crowd and call them out Jill and her friends seem to have it all their senior year, but how far did they go to make it to the top I seriously got angry reading about the characters because they were spoiled rich kids who thought the world revolved around them Slowly though, the author uncovers hints here and there about what happened leading up to their senior year and it made me hate them a little less.Onto the murder aspect, I was pleasantly surprised at the twist that happens and looking back if I was readingcarefully the author did put in little hints about who did it I really give props to the author for making it a believable murder, sometimes twists in books are so far fetched that I end up hating the entire book I want plot twist that shocks me, but is realistic which was definitely done in this book I wish this book would have been focused a littleof the mystery part and I wanted it to be darker, but it was still a very good book

Was anyone else completely obsessed when the television series Gossip Girls aired It came out my senior year of college, and my friends and I were absolute trash for it They Wish They Were Us brings back all of the feels plus adds a murder mystery to boot Gold Coast Prep is one of the most prestigious schools in the country where trust funds and privilege are commonplace During their freshman year, Jill Newman and her friends were selected to join the Players, an exclusive society at Gold C Was anyone else completely obsessed when the television series Gossip Girls aired It came out my senior year of college, and my friends and I were absolute trash for it They Wish They Were Us brings back all of the feels plus adds a murder mystery to boot Gold Coast Prep is one of the most prestigious schools in the country where trust funds and privilege are commonplace During their freshman year, Jill Newman and her friends were selected to join the Players, an exclusive society at Gold Coast that opens doors to the unimaginable But first, they have to prove themselves worthy by taking part in hazing rituals called pops On the last night, Jill s best friend Shaila Arnold was found murdered at the hands of her boyfriend Graham Calloway After his confession, he was locked up and everyone tried to move past this tragic event Now it s senior year, which means Jill and her friends are now the leaders of the Players It s their time to host the best parties, choose the next freshmen Players, and get into their dream colleges Everything is exactly as it should be until Graham Calloway withdraws his confession and claims he didn t kill Shaila Could Graham be telling the truth What actually happened that night I devoured this book in less than 24 hours This gripping, fast paced story is packed with lies, secrets, and betrayal, which made for an utterly addictive and unputdownable book As we learnabout the Players and the expectations of being a Player, we see just how far people are willing to go to belong as well as to maintain a certain image.Overall, if you re looking for an obsessive thriller murder mystery laced with twists and turns then definitely pick this one up Thank you to Penguin Teen for my review copy This did not influence my review All opinions are my own.

Want to seebookish things from me Check out my Youtube channel I received a copy of this e book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review Jill Newman attends Gold Coast Prep, a prestigious school that seems to create brilliant graduates In freshman year, Jill s best friend, Shaila Arnold is killed by her boyfriend, Graham Three years later, Jill is a senior, and part of The Players, the elite of Gold Coast Prep When Jill starts receiv Want to seebookish things from me Check out my Youtube channel I received a copy of this e book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review Jill Newman attends Gold Coast Prep, a prestigious school that seems to create brilliant graduates In freshman year, Jill s best friend, Shaila Arnold is killed by her boyfriend, Graham Three years later, Jill is a senior, and part of The Players, the elite of Gold Coast Prep When Jill starts receiving texts from Rachel, Graham s older sister, claiming his innocence, everything becomescomplicated Now, Jill needs to decide who she believes, and who she can trust in the end I think this wasof a 2.75 5 star read for me, but I m rounding it up for the sake of Goodreads having a crappy rating system I was a bit disappointed in this because I was able to figure out who the killer was very early on, but I had written them off because it seemed to obvious an option but then I ended up being correct in the end The plot was a bit slow, spendingtime on Player drama then the murder mystery I was intrigued with the Players and what they were all about, but I wasn t all that impressed with how much they complained about EVERYTHING It seemed a bit silly when they are handed everything on a silver platter and still have the audacity to complain about having to get donuts for a senior above them I dunno, it just rubbed me the wrong way I guess I did enjoy Jill and her development throughout the story I like that she finally realized the Players didn t need to be something she put on a pedastal I also enjoyed how the story flipped between the past and present without it being too jarring to read Overall, a fun read, but nothing to memorable in my opinion

One of my Most Anticipated 2020 reads and it did not disappoint in the slightest This book was SO GOOD I was lucky enough to get my greedy little paws on an early copy of it, and was obsessed I read it in 2 days, which is Very Fast for me The voice was spot on and the mystery actually kept me guessing until the end which is rare Compulsively readable if you re a fan of Karen McManus or Kara Thomas and who isnt you will LOVE this book.

Received advanced reader copy from publisher at PLA 2020They were eight Then, at the end of their freshman year, Graham killed his girlfriend Shaila So, at the start of their senior year, a year they have been waiting and longing for, when they are the elite of the elite in Gold Coast Prep s not so secret society, they are now only six But, when Jill, Shaila s best friend, gets a text proclaiming Graham is innocent, all she had hoped senior year to be comes crashing down. The author did a fanReceived advanced reader copy from publisher at PLA 2020They were eight Then, at the end of their freshman year, Graham killed his girlfriend Shaila So, at the start of their senior year, a year they have been waiting and longing for, when they are the elite of the elite in Gold Coast Prep s not so secret society, they are now only six But, when Jill, Shaila s best friend, gets a text proclaiming Graham is innocent, all she had hoped senior year to be comes crashing down. The author did a fantastic job getting me to loathe the main characters As I read the first quarter of the book, I wanted to throttle these elitist brats Then Jill s intelligence started to shine through and I really liked reading that there was a brain behind her Player fa ade.The author s storytelling device of slowly revealing the events that occurred during the senior Players freshman year was masterful The reader is fed crumbs and that lead to this particular reader to try to whip through the pagesquickly because I just had to figure out how it all went down And, yes, I did stay up long past droopy eyes as I wanted to read, read, read But On page 141, out of 327 pages, I figured out who was guilty So, to me, there was not a mystery of WHO only of HOW The how made sense mostly there was a blip that I hope was caught before final publication But the steps to how they got to the how and the confession was just, well, convenient It seemed like a hey, I really need to wrap this up Let s have this convenient discovery and get on with things That convenient discovery is why I rated it three stars instead of four

Thanks to Razorbill Penguin Teen for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.I was really interested in this book based on the premise but unfortunately it fell a little flat for me I thought this was going to be a fast paced murder mystery, but trying to solve the mystery was such an insignificant part of the book that I almost felt like it wasn t even necessary and it could have just focused on the drama with the Players, which was infinitely less interesting to me Although that Thanks to Razorbill Penguin Teen for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.I was really interested in this book based on the premise but unfortunately it fell a little flat for me I thought this was going to be a fast paced murder mystery, but trying to solve the mystery was such an insignificant part of the book that I almost felt like it wasn t even necessary and it could have just focused on the drama with the Players, which was infinitely less interesting to me Although that could have also been because basically none of the characters had any sort of development and just about all of them were unlikeable I don t necessarily mind unlikeable characters, but when the only ones I wanted to seeof were on the page for about 5 seconds, it made the rest of the book harder to read I guess the reason I am giving this 3 stars instead of 2 is because I really did want to see how the mystery was solved although the murderer was a bit obvious.I think if you are looking for teen drama with a mystery side plot, this could still work for you, but if you want a real mystery, then this probably isn t the book for you
