Things have changed a bit since this book was published but it was assigned to me for a class back in grad school so before I get rid of it I figured I ought to actually read it not just the paragraphs we focused on in class way back when Don't Ask Don't Tell had not yet been repealed and there have been a few new marriage and adoption cases since this book was written Still the history covered in this book is fairly well written and one could probably follow it even without a law background There is a lot of jargon enough to easily understand why the general public doesn't follow the courts and legislature very successfully

I read this book during and after law school Maybe it's the additional education but I didn't find it as well organized as the own about women's euality
